New Rule updates:
-All US Politics must stick to one thread and that thread must be clearly labelled as such.
-For a wide variety of reasons, no deliberate variant fonts, no emoji in thread titles. You can use them in the comment, but not in the title.

All the [community profile] fail_fandomanon Rules and Information (and Ban Requests): http://fail-fandomanon.dreamwidth.org/1076.html. The short version: no embeds, don't out people's real names, don't be that much of an asshole, body fluids are off topic, Mods reserve the right to freeze, screen, and delete the fuck out of stuff. FFA discussion covers a wide variety of topics and has a very flexible view of 'fandom' that includes politics, current events, and cooking techniques. FFA is a Choose NOT to Warn experience. Meme away.

NB: Meme rules do not require spoiler cuts/white-text/etc. Though, if you want to use spoiler cuts, a wonderful nonnie found a way to add them to DW. Just use the code below.
<div tabindex="-1"><b>spoiler title</b><div>Some spoilery content.</div></div>
See here for a detailed explanation and caveats.

In the comments to these weekly posts (and only these posts), it's your chance to go as off topic as you like. Talk about non-comics stuff, thread derail, and just generally chat amongst yourselves.

Well, in

Angela Merkel won a fourth term as Chancellor in Germany, though the far-Right party AfD did worrying well, with 12.6% of the vote. Though in a move worthy of UKIP or a Tory Party leadership contest, one of the co-leaders (and the apparently somewhat more moderate figure) walked out of the post-election press conference saying she would not sit with the party in the Bundestag. Uncertain times ahead.

In the US, the Apricot Hellbeast has managed another deflection of attention (From little things like six senior members of his staff being found to use private e-mail servers, something which the Republicans endlessly excoriated Clinton for), by making comments some wildly inappropriate comments (especially for a PoTUS) criticising those who choose to kneel for the National Anthem as a visible protest against racial inequality and police brutality.

In Arizona, their Supreme Court ruled that in the case of a lesbian married couple who divorced, both women had parental rights which should be respected. It's a little more complicated than that, but nice recognition.

And the US Marines got their first female infantry officer.

I'm ashamed to say I realised too late that last week was Bisexual Visibility week, and I didn't post a single damn thing about it. Sorry about that, Bi Community members! Anyone up for some postings to compensate?

Star Trek Discovery debuted, and I have to say I was very impressed by it. Yes, the tech doesn't line up with the fact it's pre-TOS, and another unexplained retcon of Klingon appearance is bound to throw some people off, but the cast were impressive (Seriously, Sonequa Martin and Michelle Yeoh were bloody awesome and Doug Jones worked well too!), but it made sense to do a soft reboot of the tech fifty years into the franchise and ANYTHING which tries to make the Klingons interesting again has my vote. It's a slow burn, but one worth checking out.

Theresa May gave a speech on Brexit (Or as one wag has dubbed it, "Operation Enduring Clusterfuck") last week in Florence, which managed to be non-committal on everything, even being non-committal, which is quite an achievement, sort of.

But, in an amazing exmaple of shooting oneself in the foot, the Labour Party decided not to discuss Brexit at all at their Annual Conference, which has raised a hell of a lot of eyebrows.

But to end things off on an upbeat note Puppies!

"There were several problems at DC at the time. Sales were bad (they're bad now but the entire industry sales are bad) and Marvel readers wouldn't be caught dead reading DC comics. I felt, as did many, that although DC fans understood the multiple Earths perfectly and without trouble, it was a problem to attract new readers and possibly a sign of a DC problem for the Marvel zombies. By simplifying the DC universe I believed we could attract new readers, which we did. Crisis was one of the first DC Comics (Titans being the other) that Marvel readers would check out."

- Marv Wolfman
